Target Preview Disc - The Introduction (With bonus download)Target is selling a preview disc for The Sims 3.

Filled with the usual array of screenshots, videos, etc.
Which can be found on most Sims fansites.
However what may interested everyone here though, is that the disc comes with a code for an exclusive style pattern to download.
I've not found anything about whether or not each code is unique or if all the boxes come with the same code though.
Similary we'll have to see how The Sims 3 installs additional content before we know how easy it is to share such bonuses in the next generation.
Unfortunately though, this offer is currently only available in the US.
So once again it seems as though EA are going to be offering region specific bonuses.

Is this already for sale?
Does anyone have it?

Yes, actually my copy of this arrived recently.
So I'll be able to share the pattern, if possible.
However we still have to wait and see how the extra content works for The Sims 3. It should hopefully be shareable, much like custom content but we won't know for certain until its release.

I pre-ordered the collectors edition and on the card with the code for the car download it states to register your game, then go to thesims3.com/preorder and enter the code, click submit and follow the online instructions to download the car to the sims 3 game launcher, select the car in the downloads tab and install. Sounds like the pre-orders are going to be something like how you get stuff from the sims 2 store, with that installer.

Hopefully, however they may make it harder to install such custom content into the game.
Particulary as they really want to sell content from The Sims 3 Store upon release of The Sims 3, it wouldn't be hard to believe that they may have changed how you install custom content, so that it isn't as easy and therefore prevent people easily sharing content anymore.
I'm hoping it's the same system that we're all used to, however I wouldn't put it past EA to remove that aspect of customisation, purely so they can sell content online which you could easily argue should be in the game's original release anyway.
I've nothing against selling downloadable content generally, however I really do dislike it when you can see that they've obviously kept something out of the game on purpose, purely to sell later on.
Likewise one of The Sims best features is its customisation and I would hate to see that go, simply so that EA can make money from their own store alone.

Well, it still seems to be possible to save downloads to a file.
The game itself accepts .sims3pack-files,
MTS has found a way to import custom textures (and .package-files),
and TSR are working on a tool to create new meshes.
