|
|
First, I have a question about the preorder items.
I have uninstalled BV, Seasons and H&M. Can I still use the preorder items from them in my game or do I have to have the EP & SP's they were created for installed too?
Second, my game doesn't want to give me any option other than 800 x 600 for screen resolution.
I've got the base game, University, Pets, Open for Business, Celebration Stuff, Family Fun Stuff, Holiday Fun Stuff, Nightlife and Glamour Life installed.
I've changed the GraphicsRules.scr files for Pets and Celebration stuff so that the "6200 Turbo Cache" section has "false" instead of "true" with it and I've changed the screen resolution options under "UI Options" so that the low settings are the same as medium.
My game will still only play in 800x600.
I had used the Graphics Rules change on a previous installation but this time it seems that nothing I try works. What am I doing wrong?
Any help with both questions will be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Max |

1. No, you must have the correct expansion to use the objects.
2. Post your system specs. _________________

System Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
160 GB HD (88% free, the Sims is the only thing on that computer)
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX
NVIDIA nForce Audio
Windows XP Home Edition
If you need any other specs let me know.
This computer has always worked fine with the Sims before. Maybe a little slow with all the expansions and SP's on there but the slowness didn't bother me much.
I just reformatted a couple of weeks ago to remove SecuROM because I had had some problems with that. My game was running fine with the GraphicsRules changes then but this install doesn't want to seem to accept them.
I installed all the games back up to Seasons. I then uninstalled Seasons without reinstalling all the other games before starting to play again. I'm considering taking off Pets too because I rarely ever use anything from that EP.
Should I have reinstalled all the games after removing Seasons before firing up the game again? |

I did some research, and found that the Geforce4 MX was a good card back in 2002. Since its around 5 years old, I highly suggest getting a new card. A PCI-E x16 card if you have the proper slots for it. The Geforce4 MX is really holding you down.
It prolly cant get you past 800x600 with the sims, because it isnt capable of doing anything past that, with 60Hz refresh rate. _________________

Really? Hm. I have to add that in the pack then. I remember correctly, it tells you that you don't have the proper expansion installed, when you try and unSims2pack the object. _________________

Why did you modify the 6200 Turbo Cache section? That won't do anything for your card, since it's not in the 6200 series.
From what I've been able to determine, the card is either in software rendering mode or the game blocks out video cards with low video memory. |

Thanks for all the replies. I've got everything working now. I created a startup.cheat file for the game and I now have access to all the screen resolutions. Everything is running just spiffy!
As to the pre-order bonuses...
I am using some of the Seasons items but I don't have Seasons installed so XS was right there. I had thought that perhaps the items might have been based on something that was in the code for the particular EP or SP and might not work without it.
Again, thanks for all the replies! |

I know I'm late on responding to this but wanted to let you know that the NVIDIA card that you have along with some others is the problem with your game, I too had the 6200 and switched to a Radeon but on my hubby's computer is the NVIDIA 6200 and they put out some new drivers to correct this problem, since then the NVIDIA 6200 on my hubbys computer has ran Sims2 with all expansions and stuff packs fine.
