I have looked around a bit and examined the downloads on the CD from the German Sims Magazine.
Downloads for Sims3 may come as Sims3Pack-files, these can be opened by double-clicking them, they are then listed in the Game Launcher, from where they can be activated.
Also, with a small modification it is possible for the game to recognize package-files (providing they are made for Sims3).

All sounds very good.
Should hopefully mean that the sharing of custom content will continue to be easy for all.
Now I'm just waiting for my copy of The Sims 3 Collector's Edition to arrive...
Already been told twice now that it's been shipped.
But I'm still waiting!
